Reducing our Salon Footprint

We care about the environment and are conscious of the impact we can have on it due to the type of waste we are exposed to within the salon. We have made the effort to do our part to help reduce our salon footprint by working together with some fabulous organizations who really make a difference in and for our world.

Did you know that we are a “Sustainable Salon”

You may be wondering what exactly that means, so let me tell you a little bit about it.

Sustainable Salons is an organization that takes ALL of our waste, diverts it from landfill, recycles it all into various forms, all to reduce the salon footprint.

Our plastics are cleaned and upcycled into new products.

Salon metals, including foils, and paper are sold for recycling with the proceeds donated to reputable organizations who feed people in need.

Hair collected from the salon floor is used to make “Hair Brooms” that will one day help to protect our coastlines by assisting with the clean up of oil spills.

Ponytails longer than 20cm are donated to charitable organizations for the creation of wigs for those who suffer from Cancer or Alopecia.

Chemicals are collected, pooled and sent to chemical recycling plants where they are neutralised and turned into recycled water.

Selected disposable hygiene products used during treatments are pulled apart and the materials are sent for re-purposing.

We purchase “Who Gives a Crap” toilet paper. “Who Gives a Crap” launched from learning that a staggering 2.4 billion people didn’t have access to a toilet. This number has now reduced to 2 billion – hooray for progress!!! They calculated that around 289,000 children under the age of 5 die every year from diarrhea diseases caused by poor water and sanitation (almost 800 per day). This wonderful organization donates 50% of their profits to build toilets and improve sanitation in the developing countries.

Along with supporting these organizations, we also buy the delicious Urban Brew Coffee whose coffee pods / capsules are biodegradable.
